We do this all the time without knowing what we’re doing:

  1. We have a desire
  2. It is a deep wish for something we don’t have.
  3. We have an expectation of when we want it to show up, and how it will occur.
  4. Then when nothing happens we’re disappointed, dejected, and the process repeats.

The details might be filled in with a certain type of person we want for a relationship, or a vague wish for a career or more money. Often there is fear of failure or disappointment based on past experiences.

All day every day this thought process could be playing around in the background of our mind without even realizing we’re doing it.

There is a better way.

Today, the art of detachment is backed by scientific research. The practice of detachment reduces stress and anxiety, improves emotional well-being, and overall mental health is improved.

It is liberating to free the space taken up by the attention we put on the ups and downs of emotions and the results of negative thinking.
