I recently had insight when my natural vitality was missing two days before I was about to go on a popular game show. What had happened? It wasn’t performance anxiety, I was used to that. This was a good deal, an opportunity, and I could win something, maybe.

Yet, I dragged myself through the necessary preparation, questioning why I said ‘yes’ in the first place.

I was really tired of not having clarity about finding purpose and meaning. I missed the country and riding horses but loved the ‘vibe’ of living in the city of Los Angeles and doing weird things like appearing on game shows.

I seemed to have so many interests but all it did was keep me from clarity and a sense of balanced purpose. At least when I had horses things were uncomplicated. Now, I was so busy I wasn’t actually achieving anything but distraction.

Henry David Thoreau discovered it when he embarked on his stay on Walden’s Pond and said, “Our life is frittered away by detail. Simplify, simplify, simplify! I say, let your affairs be as two or three, and not a hundred or a thousand…

I will write about the game show afterward. For now, my interest is in being mindful, and enjoying the silence and simplicity of…
