I was at the gym when the call came. It was magical. I heard the voice say, “This is Joanne from ABC, is this Linda?” Right away I knew I had gotten selected from my audition to be on a popular TV show.
After I finished the call getting the details for my appearance in two weeks, I walked in tiny bursts of excited steps around the gym looking for my husband to share the news. It was too much to contain by myself.
The good news elevated me out of my stuck place I had lived in daily for six years. I hadn’t experienced the thrill of success since 2016 and the appearance of lack and scarcity was starting to wear on my naturally positive nature.
I had reached that ‘certain age,’ where opportunities dry up. No one can agree on when that age occurs, it can be 40, 50, 60 or beyond. The conventional beliefs of society dictate that after a ‘certain age’ it’s too late, we’re too old, so why bother. An invisible curtain falls and seemingly overnight life feels like the Patti Page song in 1969: ‘Is that all there is? If that’s all there is, then let’s go dancing…”
I confess to having that thought.
