Occasionally boat living has its challenges. The neighbors are closer than usual and some are quieter than others.

The other day a neighbor behind my boat (about twenty yards away) had his radio on and when I lay in bed, the sound was a constant drone behind my head.

I have no problem with the barking of sea lions. I tell myself they are singing me to sleep.

It is perspective, after all.

Just recently the neighbor moved one space over. Strangely, I hardly noticed him when his boat was a few feet more to the left, but in this new boat slip the sound of everything he did traveled straight into my space.

I complained to the management more than once. They told me he was an ‘angry person,’ but they would ask him to turn down the noise, even though he had refused the last time they asked. I said it wasn’t so much about the sound coming from his boat, it was his new location. I wanted him to move back to his old slip, and no longer live behind my head when I was in bed.
