Life on a Sailboat
The Miracle of Adventure
Recently I finally stopped having a sense of circling overhead. Like the seagull I see each morning from the upper deck of my sailboat, The Dani-Lin, I finally feel ready to land. The gull stares back at me, dark eyes offering depth, focus and determination.
That’s how I feel today after Jim and I moved onto our 45' Sailboat in 2018, having emerged from decades of accumulated baggage. After the estate sale, truckloads of much of what didn’t sell — furniture, dishes and clothing were taken away by Goodwill, Angel View, or the Salvation Army. I gifted beautiful high fashion outfits like Escada and St John to someone who wears those things. I then bought an inexpensive one-piece short outfit, grey with white letters across the front that said, “Living the Dream.”
Jim is my husband and my Captain in life and on the water. When we arrived into our new harbor, he settled the boat so gracefully into the slip that I could step lightly off the stern onto the dock, turn and grab a railing to help him get situated in what would become our new home in Los Angeles. Minimized, downsized and free, I felt like I was reentering the present moment, not a clue what was next and not missing all the stuff, not one bit.
